Race Format

2006

Races will be lap races instead of timed heats. The format will be championship format, just like at the Fray. On a 4 lane track, the winner of the heat would get 4 points…2nd place 3 points, etc. On a 6 lane track it would start with the winner receiving 6 points and counting down from there.

There will be qualifying. Each driver will qualify 0-3 cars. One car in each class is the maximum.  Qualifying time will also be the determining factor for any ‘tie’ scores, at the end of the race. So, good qualifying is important. Each driver will have 5 qualifying laps with each class car they're entering. You can qualify your cars in any class order that you choose. You crash; you burn! The field order will be set by the qualifying results. The top 5-7 qualifying cars in each class will be used for the day's racing. The order of race class will be determined at each race by pulling numbers/names out of a hat.

Races will generally be 60 laps. This represents (4) 15 lap heats on a 4-lane track or (6) 10 lap heats on a 6-laner.

Scoring will be different too, this year, in an attempt to keep racers in the hunt, even if they miss a couple races.

Top qualifier in each class gets one  point, and automatically wins any ties he‘s involved in, in that class.

The highest point total of the day, in any one class, gets 1 extra point. (If more than one driver shares the most race points, they both get a bonus point in the standings). The scoring will be collective. Your score from all 3 classes will be added together for your final race score. The final scoring for the standings will be as follows:

1st Place : 3 points

(Top 5)  2nd thru 5th : 2 points

(Top 10) 6th  thru 10th : 1 point

DNF (if you quit in the middle of a race) minus 1 point.

A perfect day would be 13 points.

3 points  for qualifying highest in all 3 classes

3 points  for winning all 3 class races

1 point for highest race total in any one class

3 points for having one of your cars used in each TRI-ROC class race

3 points for highest cumulitave total (this means you won!)

___________________________

13 points total…..perfect day!

After qualifying, the top 4 or 6 cars will be lined up and the race starts. Nobody will get any practice laps...you'll just have to be quick to figure out each car on each lane.  We will begin the race with those who did not qualify. It will be a 4-6 man consi, with the top half of the field, moving up to the next consi. So, 2 or 3 guys (depending on how many lanes) will move up in each consi, until the Main. For the Main...each driver will get 5 practice laps before the race.

The new format will, no doubt, have some bugs to be worked out. I've tried to think of everything but, I'm sure I overlooked some things. So, please be patient on raceday. I think it should all work  out. If there are 20 racers, that would be 9 consis, including the Main. Each heat of 15 laps should take approximately 2-3 minutes. Let's call it 5 minutes, including time between heats. That adds up to only 45 minutes per race.  So, let's call that an hour per class. With qualifying, that's only about a 3 1/2 hour raceday.....If everything goes as planned. If we find that the race day is over too quickly, we can increase the number of laps in each race. If it's over really fast, we can go through twice or, what would be most helpful, is if we used this time to test and tune  together.

Okay..that's it for now. I'm sure that there will be some revisions/additions.
