Official Rules

  • 1.  The maximum width for body is as it is sold.

  • 2.  The maximum width for the rims/tires is 1.3125".

  • 3.  Any rear axles may be used.

  • 4.  The body must be a readily available, hard plastic replica of a modern era (1999 or newer) 

NASCAR racecar, from Lifelike, Tyco/Mattel, Tomy, BRP, or stock replacement.

  • 5.  Guide pin screw must clear track.

  • 6.  Body must be long wheel base style.

  • 7.  Front axle must be located in long wheelbase position, 1.450" long.

SPECIFICS (body)

  • 1.  Hard plastic NASCAR body must be mounted using both original mounting points of the chassis.

  • 2.  Body may be lowered. Minimum roof height is .730" off track. (We'll need a template.)

  • 3.  The wheel wells MAY NOT BE CUT for tire clearance, except for Intrepid.

  • 4.  Homemade body posts may be installed, but must be plastic.

  • 5.  Front and rear windows must be present.

  • 6.  Driver and passenger side windows may be removed, 
         however you are encouraged to leave the netting in for appearance.

  • 7.  Body may be lightened so long as original exterior appearance remains in tact.

  • 8.  Tyco bodies may have sides trimmed for lowering.

  • 9.  Lifelike GRAND PRIX and INTREPID may remove rear bumper to first crease, or lower part of license recess.

  • 10. Front valance may not be trimmed, except for Intrepid.

  • 11. No weight, other than the posts and post’s glue may be added.  
         Obvious misuse of the glue to add weight will result in a DQ.

SPECIFICS (chassis)

  • 1.  Only stock Johnny Lightning chassis and armatures, 15 ohms and higher, are allowed. No modifications or  balancing will be permitted.

  • 2.  Top plate rails may be trimmed to plate.

  • 3.  Only stock Johnny Lightning, stock Aurora/MM, Aurora Wild Ones, Aurora Tuff Ones, or Aurora AF/X

    non-magnatraction magnets may be used. 
    No Super II/dimpled magnets
    Magnets MAY NOT BE SHIMMED.  
  • 4.  Any brushes may be used.

  • 5.  Any pickup shoe may be used.

  • 6.  Any pickup spring may be used.

  • 7.  Pickup Springs may be cut or lengthened, and must be used in their original location only.

  • 8.  Top of pickup shoe may be bent to limit travel.

  • 9.  Stock Johnny Lightning gears must be used...
         14 tooth pinion and 15 tooth spur gears only.

  • 10. Only stock Johnny Lightning front guide pin assembly will be permitted. 
          Guide pin may be glued into original position. 

  • 11. Any 2-wire controller will be allowed. 
          No built in brakes, coast, or any simulation thereof will be permitted.

NO MODIFICATIONS,
OTHER THAN THOSE LISTED,
WILL BE PERMITTED.
