Old 'n NAS-T Series

Old 'n NAS-T Series - Vintage Hardbody NASCAR Grand National  (1967 and older cars)

This series will be for those who want to get back to racing the kind of cars that they raced as a kid.  We will be racing hard bodies from Aurora, Model Motoring, and  JL, and MEV only. You may use stock Johnny Lightning chassis, with the same rules as the NAS-T-JET series (see exceptions below).

Allowable bodies are as follows:

  • Aurora: '60 T-Bird, '62 Galaxie, '63 Falcon, '63 Fairlane, '63 Galaxie, '67 Galaxie, '67 T-Bird, '67 Riviera, '43 Willys

  • Model Motoring:  '55 Bel Air, '67 Chevelle, '66 GTO, '67 GTX, '43 Willys

  • Johnny Lightning:  '66 Fairlane, '59 Impala, '62 Bel Air, '62 Impala, '43 Willys

  • MEV: '53 Packard, '57 Olds, '57 Bel Air, '57 Fairlane,'58 Bel Air, '58 Caddy, '58 Edsel, '58 Fury, '58 Fairlane, '59 Electra, '59 fairlane, '59 Impala, '59 Bonneville, '59 T-Bird, '59 DeSoto, '60 Starliner, '60 Biscayne, '60 Bonneville, '61 Starliner, '61 Catalina, '62 Bel Air, '62 Catalina, '62 Impala, '62 Nova,

  • '62 Wildcat, '62 Galaxie, '62 Savoy, '63 Catalina, '63 Belvedere, '64 Polara, '64 Galaxie, '64 Savoy, '65 Impala, '65 Coronet

  • No convertibles/roadsters.

There are many different body styles to choose from. You can choose to race a Ford, Chevy, Buick, Dodge, Plymouth, Cadillac, DeSoto, Edsel, Willys, or Pontiac. This should leave room for plenty of variety for bodies, colors, numbers, etc.  This also leaves room for plenty of choices in each of the allowable manufacturers. Many of these bodies were raced in NASCAR Grand National series, at some point.  All of the bodies were carefully chosen so as not to give one particular car an advantage, the way that the Mako had the advantage in the Fray cars.

The basic differences from the NAS-T-JET rules are:

  • Tuff Ones Slip-on tires, only.

  • Single or Double flanged, press on rims may be used.

  • Stock Tuff Ones width rear axles, only. Drill blanks may be used.

  • Stock JL or Aurora Tuff Ones,  JW's independent Tuff Ones fronts, or any other Tuff Ones width front set will be allowed.

  • Front tires may be any size but, both tires must touch the track at the same time.

  • Bodies may be lightened and lowered.

  • Wheel wells may be trimmed, if needed, to allow tire clearance.

  • Stock windshield must be in place. Rear glass may be removed. No lexan or thin plastic.

  • JL chassis; no balancing of the arm.

The NAS-T-JET Series will also continue onward into year 3.
The rules will remain the same for the cars but, the race format will change as well.

2004-2005 Season
Vintage Hardbody NASCAR Grand National  (1969 and older cars)

This series will be for those who want to get back to racing the kind of cars that they raced as a kid.  We will be racing injection molded, hard plastic bodies from Aurora, Model Motoring, and  JL, only. This will be an integrated chassis series. You may use either original Aurora chassis, with basic Fray rules, or stock Johnny Lightning chassis, with the same rules as the NAS-T-JET series (see exceptions below).  No mixing of parts….chassis will be either one or the other.

Allowable bodies are as follows:

There are 18 different body styles to choose from. You can choose to race a Ford, Chevy, Buick, Dodge, Plymouth, or Pontiac. This should leave room for plenty of variety for bodies, colors, numbers, etc. (There will be a concourse at each race, with a grand prize at the end of the season.) This also leaves room for plenty of choices in each of the allowable manufacturers. Most of these bodies were raced in NASCAR Grand National series, at some point with a few exceptions.  All of the bodies were carefully chosen so as not to give one particular car an advantage, the way that the Mako had the advantage in the Fray cars.

I’m going to try and put the bite on JL/Playing Mantis for some sponsorship, as well as Model Motoring,  NASCAR, and others, too. Hopefully, there will be some good prizes we will be racing for.

The basic differences from the Fray rules are:

  • Tuff Ones Slip-on tires, only.

  • Single or Double flanged, press on rims may be used.

  • Stock Tuff Ones width rear axles, only. Drill blanks may be used.

  • Stock JL or Aurora Tuff Ones, or JW's brass independent Tuff Ones fronts will be allowed*.

*- I've just put in an order for 25 front ends from JW's. They will be 5.25 each (that includes shipping costs I incurred).  Also, I'm happy to announce that JW's Speed Parts is now an official sponsor of  Rock Island Racing!

The race format will be different than what we’ve been running. I’m currently working out the bugs in a new system and I should have it figured out soon.

The NAS-T-JET Series will also continue onward into year 2.
The rules will remain the same for the cars but, the race format will change as well.

There will be one race day scheduled, every four weeks, leaving plenty of room for a Fray series. I will not be resuming operations of  a Fray series in 2005. Matt Paul will be taking care of scheduling/operations of the TRAC Rolling Thunder Series in 2005.
